Finding out the IVF #1 didn’t work was really hard on both Brian & I, as I’m sure you can imagine. But, we’ve worked through it and we’re now chugging along through IVF #2!!
Dr. Scheiber called me after we got our BFN to go over what he thought the problem was and what he thought made the most sense moving forward. Because we only had one frozen embryo we’ve decided to wait to do a FET until we have more, to give us a better chance since only 2/3 of embryos survive the thaw.
So…that means we’re working on “fresh” cycle #2, with a new protocol! This will be a longer protocol, but it’s cheaper and should be much easier on my body, with a better overall response. There were some issues with my egg quality in the last cycle (not uncommon with PCOS) so Dr. Scheiber is hoping the new protocol will help my eggs mature and grow better than before. My new protocol is called “overlapping Lupron” and here’s how it works (CD followed by a number refers to that day of my cycle):
CD3: Bloodwork and begin Birth Control Pills
CD17: Begin Lupron and continue taking BCP
CD24: End BCP but continue Lupron
CD27: Bloodwork to check that ovaries are shut down. End Lupron and begin Follistim (no Menopur this time!)
CD30: First follicle check
CD33: Second follicle check
CD37: Final follicle check and end Follistim
CD39: Trigger Shots
CD41: Egg Retrieval
CD44: Embryo Transfer
CD58: Bloodwork to determine if I’m pregnant
It’s longer, but I feel confident that this is best for me. Hopefully this will work and we’ll be due just before Christmas!
Wish us luck and keep the thoughts and prayers coming 🙂
